The story of a surfer who became a shaper
It all began on the beaches of Biarritz, between two teaching sessions. Firmin, a surf instructor and educational and social support teacher, has been teaching young people, beginners, surfers with disabilities and enthusiasts seeking confidence since 2008.
Competitor in Longboard (European level), Runner-up in Stand Up Paddle Surfing (in swimming trunks – style is important!) , and versatile surfer on small boards, he spends thousands of hours in the water, observing how each board reacts under his students' feet.
In 2015, he decided to take things further. He trained in the handcrafted manufacture of surfboards, fascinated by the alchemy between design, materials and behaviour on the wave. He then trained for a CQPM (Certificate of Professional Qualification in Composite Materials) at Composite Adour before returning to the Shaper House in Biarritz and abroad with the best: Rebel Surfboard in South Africa, Mickey Meyer in Jeffrey's Bay, Britt Merrick, Break in Indonesia, Peru with Rodrigo Surfboards, etc.
Since then, he has been designing his own models, refining them year after year through contact with those he works with.
